Initial impressions of the Gen 5 Glock 19; it has the look and feel of previous Glock pistols.  There are some noticeable differences however.

  • Gone are the finger grooves on the grip
  • The magazine well is flared to aide in reloading
  • There is a small cut out at the bottom of the grip to aide in the removal of a jammed magazine
  • There is now an ambidextrous slide lock
  • The slide is beveled around the barrel to aide with holstering the firearm
  • The magazine has a larger bump pad to aide in removal
  • The follower is orange to visually assist in determining a spent magazine
  • In addition the orange follower will be more visible through the round counter on the magazine
  • Sights are white contrast; the rear has a lower and wider U than the Gen 4.  The front sight is the typical white dot.
  • Factory installed night sites are available on some models.

  • First Impression of firearm
    • Describe the finish
      • Nice polymer stippling on the grip portion of the frame
      • Slide is BLACK and beveled at the end
      • Typical Glock finish detail
      • The Gen 5 FEELS good in the hand

    • Describe the fit
      • Slide does or does not rattle……………slide to frame is tight
      • Difficulty in retracting slide…………….racking the slid is easy
      • Difficulty in cocking hammer…………..NA for a  Glock
      • Cylinder locks up tight………………….as expected for a Glock
      • Difficulty in pulling trigger (dry fire)…...a little bit of takeup but a nice crisp break

    • Weight

    • How it feels in the hand
      • G 19 Gen 5 felt good in my hands (medium to large).
      • There are grip inserts to adjust the size of the grip for larger hands

    • Take down/disassembly
      • Typical Glock disassembly procedure
      • Recoil spring is dual spring design.
      • Barrel is a Block Marksman Barrel; it loses the polygonal rifling for traditional land and groove.

  • Range testing
    • Type of ammunition used
      • Caliber/gauge………………………….9 mm x 19 mm
      • Bullet weight/shot weight……………..115 gr Blazer brass
      • Bullet type- /FMJ/JHP/etc……………,,FMJ

    • Trigger
      • The trigger appears to be a little “crisper” than the Gen 4.  Breaks cleanly.

    • Recoil….easily managed.  Sights come back into target alignment easily

    • Conclusions
      • Ate the ammunition with zero malfunctions.  We did not try other ammunition on our first review.
      • No problems encountered with the G 19 Gen 5
      • General feelings about the firearm………………Great pistol. “Sweet”
      • Recommended to purchase
        • It may be slightly more expensive than the G19 Gen 4, but with the new factory features, and the possibility of factory night sights, the Gen 5 is rated a good buy.
